Those new to organisations might be surprised, but those around in them for some time will not be, by the fact that very few organisations have an updated list of unique roles of employees in the organisation. Also, for the set of known unique roles, mostly, one is not likely to find updated Job Descriptions. Not very hard to see why.
These simple asks entail some amount of diligent effort. Therefore they stay permanently in the list of nice-to-dos to be taken up some day. In the meantime, their need is felt... Some work around is found to evade the task of roles documentation most of the time.
In our experience, however, most organisations have made efforts in the past to document Roles, Job Descriptions, and ‘Skill Matrices’. But in the absence of a thought-through approach to develop, store, access, use and update these documents, these efforts fizzle out nearly always before achieving stability as an organisational practice. We get organisations to stabilise this practice.
Our cloud-based platform provides the facility to businesses to connect this database of Roles to their employee database, and to downstream applications - Hiring Systems, Performance Management Systems, Learning Management Systems, and others, to provide role-specific resources at scale, such as, assessment tools, career pathing inputs and learning resources.
And our preference is to get these documents developed by internal resources of the organisation, whom we train. This ensures sustenance of the effort beyond the initial build.
